Innovative Skill-Based STEM

An advanced pathway for what’s next.

STEM Operatives is our advanced high school program — designed for students ready to move beyond introductory coding into real-world applications.

Students engage with AP Computer Science Principles concepts while developing strong foundations in programming, computational thinking, and problem-solving. Beyond the screen, Operatives gain hands-on experience programming collaborative robots, exploring automation systems, and understanding how modern engineering and technology power today’s industries.

By graduation, Operatives don’t just know how to code. They know how to build things that matter.

Program Pillars

Three disciplines, one operative.

The Operatives curriculum balances theory and application — every concept ties back to something students can build, test, and demonstrate.

AP Computer Science Principles

The college-level CS curriculum: abstraction, algorithms, data, the internet, programming, and digital ethics. Operatives leave prepared for the AP exam — and for college CS.

Collaborative Robotics

Hands-on programming of cobots and industrial automation systems — the same technology powering manufacturing, logistics, and modern industry today.

Applied Engineering

Operatives bridge software and hardware — from microcontrollers and embedded systems to automation pipelines and IoT projects that solve real problems.

The Toolkit

Industry-grade tools.

Operatives don’t work with toy environments. They use the same languages and platforms that engineers ship with.

Python

Industry standard for everything from data to robotics

Java

Object-oriented programming and AP CS

JavaScript

Web development and modern frameworks

Microcontrollers

Arduino, Raspberry Pi, embedded systems

Cobots

Collaborative robotic arms and automation

Git & GitHub

Version control like a real engineer

Web & APIs

HTTP, REST, and full-stack basics

IoT & Sensors

Connected devices and data pipelines

College & Career Readiness

Built for what’s next.

STEM Operatives doesn’t just teach skills — it builds the portfolio, the experience, and the confidence to move directly into college CS, engineering programs, or technical careers.

AP

Exam-ready by senior year

Operatives complete the full AP Computer Science Principles curriculum, with the option to sit for the AP exam.

Real portfolio projects

Every Operative graduates with documented projects on GitHub — work to show colleges, internship interviews, and employers.

Clear pathway forward

Whether the next step is engineering school, a CS major, a technical apprenticeship, or industry, Operatives know what’s possible and how to get there.

The K–12 Mission Path

The final stage.

STEM Operatives is the capstone of the STEMForce journey — turning years of foundational skill-building into real, demonstrable expertise.

Parent & Student FAQ

Common questions.

Does my student need prior coding experience?
It helps but isn’t required. Students who completed Code Agents are well-prepared. Newcomers with strong math and curiosity can start with focused foundational work in the first few weeks.
Is this an AP exam prep program?
It’s more than that — Operatives covers the full AP Computer Science Principles curriculum, plus applied robotics and engineering work the AP exam doesn’t touch. Students who want to sit for the AP exam are fully prepared by senior year.
What do students actually build?
Real projects: original software, programmed cobots, IoT prototypes, automation scripts, full web applications. Every Operative graduates with a documented portfolio on GitHub.
How does this fit with a typical high school schedule?
Sessions run evenings and weekends, designed to complement school rather than compete with it. Many Operatives also use STEMForce projects for school capstone requirements, science fairs, and college applications.
Will this help with college admissions?
Yes — and not just as a line item. A documented technical portfolio is increasingly what differentiates strong CS and engineering applicants. We coach students on how to present their work.
What if my student is more interested in robotics than coding (or vice versa)?
The program weaves both throughout, but students can lean into the areas that excite them most. The curriculum is designed to flex around individual interests while maintaining core competencies.
